3 signs it’s time to rebrand
Have you ever looked at your business and felt like something just isn’t clicking anymore? Maybe your logo feels outdated, your messaging doesn’t quite capture what you do, or you’re attracting the wrong clients. If so, you’re not alone. Businesses evolve, and sometimes, the brand that once fit perfectly starts to feel like a pair of shoes that no longer match your style.
I’ve been there myself, and I think any business that has been around for a while (RMG is approaching its 20th birthday!) will have gone through something similar. When I first started out, my brand reflected where I was then—but over time, as I grew and refined my expertise, I realized my branding no longer represented what I offered or the clients I wanted to attract. It doesn’t need to be a full rebrand; even refreshing your brand can breathe new life into a business and realign how you work with your vision for the future. To brand who you want to become, not where you’ve come from.
If you’re wondering whether it’s time for you to do the same, here are three signs to look out for.
1. Your brand no longer reflects who you are
Businesses, like people, change over time. What you started out doing may not be what you do now. Maybe you’ve gained experience, shifted your focus, or refined your services—but your brand hasn’t kept up.
A few years ago, a friend of mine was running a handmade jewellery business. Her original brand was all about colorful, playful designs for younger customers. But as her style evolved and she started creating elegant, minimalist pieces, she noticed a disconnect. Her website and logo still screamed ‘boho festival vibes’ when her work had shifted towards ‘chic and timeless.’
If you feel like your branding is telling an outdated story about your business, it’s time to refresh things so that they reflect the real you.
2. You’re attracting the wrong clients
Have you ever had a potential client reach out and describe what they’re looking for, only for you to think, ‘That’s not what I do at all’? This mismatch can often be traced back to branding that’s sending the wrong signals.
Imagine if you were a business coach who was attracting small startups in need of basic guidance, but you really wanted to work with established business owners ready for deep transformation. The problem isn’t necessarily your services, it’s how you’re presenting them. Your website, visuals, and messaging might be unintentionally positioning you as a beginner-friendly coach instead of a high-level strategist. The result? You keep getting inquiries from people who aren’t the right fit, while the clients you truly want don’t even realize you exist.
When you refine your branding to reflect your expertise and clearly communicate who you serve, you’ll start attracting the right people—the ones who value your work, are ready to invest, and truly resonate with what you offer.
3. Your brand is holding you back
This one is a biggie. If you find yourself hesitating to share your website, cringing at your business cards, or feeling the need to explain your brand before people ‘get it,’ that’s a clear sign it’s time for a change.
I once had a client tell me, ‘I don’t even want to hand out my brochures at events because they look so amateurish.’ That hesitation was costing her opportunities! We redesigned her visuals, refined her messaging, and gave her a brand she felt proud of—and suddenly, she was confidently putting herself out there, which led to more connections and sales.
Your brand should be something you’re excited to showcase, not something you feel you have to apologise for. If you’re not proud of it, it’s time for a refresh.
Remember…
Rebranding isn’t just about changing a logo—it’s about making sure your business reflects who you are, what you do, and who you serve. If any of these signs sound familiar, it might be time to take a step back and reassess.
And if you’re feeling overwhelmed about where to start, don’t worry—I’ve been there too! The good news is, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Whether it’s a small refresh or a full transformation, I’d love to help you create a brand that feels like the perfect fit for you and your business.
